A few days ago 591 Photography opened the doors on their spring exhibition “Men and women” that Im proud to be apart of. This is the second time i get published on the site, but the first time i have 2 images in the same exhibition… So head on over there and take a look!
Yes, there’s been an update in the camera bag again! I’ve sold my beloved Canon G10 and bought the Canon S95.
As you can see the camera is super small and light and maybe, just maybe the best “pocketeble” camera out there right now.
It has the same sensor as the Canon G12 and can shoot raw! The image quality it really good for a camera in this class and the controls are almost the same as on the G10 so i feel right at home!
So from here on this little thing will always be in my pocket.
Yesterday I was in Paris shooting yet another tv commercial. A REALLY hectic day, we did the whole thing in 8 hours… I gotta admit that I was more then a little bit sad when I realized that I wasn’t able to go streetshooting. Because in my book Paris is the no 1 place for street photography!
Had a hectic couple of days this weekend. But nothing can come in the way of my “sunday walk”. In all honesty i was feeling the aftermath of the night before quite a bit so the creativity was not at its best, but who to blame but me, right!? hehe.
Yes folks! another weekend has past and it’s now time for the weekend update. This saturday i went for a walk downtown Oslo to se what i could find. The day started kinda bad with almost nobody in the city due to the ski world championship being held here. But after a few hours people came down to the city and i got to work…
Street photography is about timing. Sometimes your biggest strength can be your patience, i waited almost 30min for the shot above. Is it worth it? well… if you ask me, then yeah!
Sometimes i find myself just waiting for the perfect moment, the moment when your subject give you a look, a smile, a reaction…
A friend of mine once asked me how i find these people out in the city, how i see what he cannot see. Reactions in people, funny situations, symmetry etc. The answer is not so easy, but i guess it comes down to learning. In the beginning i couldn’t see what i see today. I just snapped away 100 of pictures and quite often the best pictures was “happy accidents” Ever since i bought my first rangefinder (canon QL17) i started to see it more often. Just because of the way the rangefinder cameras work. You can actually see your subjects in the viewfinder before they come in to the actual frame. It takes some time getting used to but as soon as you learn it you’ll love it!!
Well… Im back in the cold wet Oslo. Snow, rain, wind!! It almost feels like time is standing still here!? Ahhh do i miss the spanish sun…
Last weekend I was in Spain shooting mountainbikers for a series of Norwegian training videos. As usual when i am traveling with work there’s little if no time to shoot stills. But i try! I’m now looking trough the few shots I managed to shoot with my leica. In the meantime you have to make do with this image from my iPhone. Later…
Im now back from 5 hectic days in the US. I was there shooting 2 commercials for norwegian television so there where not that much time to shoot stills. But as usual these days i brought my M8. Luckily I managed to get a few hours on the streets in between recordings.
The first stop on the trip was Greensboro in North Carolina, a really small, old town with almost nothing to see…
After that it was time to head on over to the west coast and Portland.
Portland was actually kinda cool in it’s own was. it was like if the town just died a couple of years ago and that the whole city now just was asleep. Lots of old abandoned buildings and factories that now where empty.
This was my third time in the US and as usual Im already looking forward to going back there…
I’ll be back shortly with more shots from the trip and some video from the Commercial shoot.
Yes, i’m back on the road again. This time I’m in the US to film 2 commercials for norwegian television. After a quick pitstop in New York we’re now in Greensboro, North Carolina where we will shoot the first commercial. Later this week we will fly over to the west coast to film the last one. More on that later…
I haven’t had so much time to shoot with my new M8, but the time i’ve spent shooting with it has been nothing short but beautiful. What a camera!! Today i took my beloved camera out for a walk here in the city and here’s what i ended up with.
Sometimes you just get drained of inspiration… That’s when I turn to my books. I’ve bought a lot of books during the last couple of years and today I got two more, two totally different books… “Terryworld” and “strangely familiar” Terryworld being a “semiporn-smack-in-your-face” kind of book and Strangely familiar being a mellow and beautiful portrait book of circus artist and athletes from eastern Europe, simply beautiful. So now I’m hoping that the inspiration comes rushing back!
The work with the BI movie continues and a few days back we where on location shooting the last part with the principal. In between I managed to snap a few stills and this is one of them.
Another week has past and another weekend is over, right now it feels like the days just fly by. One day its Monday and boom its sunday again, wired! Anyhow… I was out this weekend walking the cold streets here in Oslo, trying to find some inspiration. Everything is grey and it almost feels like the whole city is put on hold…
I cannot wait so see the first glance of spring, I am just so f**king tired of the snow…
But i guess it could be worse…
Yesterday i came across a funny little app called “8mm vintage camera” it lets you make your iPhone videos look like Super8
This weekend i finally got some time to go out and shoot some more with the M8. It takes some time getting used to, but damn do i like it!
The hardest thing with this camera is the focus… Since the focuspatch is it the center of the frame focusing can be hard at times. But i’am getting better by the day. (all images in this post is shot wide open @ f2.0)
It might be just me, but i think B/W is the way to go when it comes to the M8 (and streetphotography in general)
Again my focus skills where put to the test, the focus is spot on but i forgot to change the iso so the shutter speed was not more then 1/45. Rookie mistake!! hehe
That was all for now folks, but make sure to check in here again soon because there’s plenty more to come…
This morning was just like every other these days… Cold, dark and wet. On my way to work this morning i brought my M8 to see if i could find anything interesting to shoot. It was not that many out yet but i managed to find this girl in a red coat that made for an interesting picture.
Couse these days are so short now, it was dark again when i went home… I think the M8 did a fairly good job rendering the colors. The images are a bit noisy but to be shot @ ISO 1250 on a CCD sensor i still think its pretty good.
Today i was in the studio with Mr Cristo to take some new photos for his new website that is coming up in a few days…. Big fun!! We took a lot of shots and this was the one we ended up with. Again Im impressed over how much you can do with just an Umbrella and a small speedlight! I did not only shoot Mr Cristo in the studio today, but that story is for another day…
